Updating from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 via Windows Store does not change the product key or activation state.Įven though the update path does not change the activation state, there are product keys specific to Windows 8.1.Windows Activation is no longer a separate interface in Control Panel.Windows Activation status is now shown in PC Settings.The user interface has changed, as well as some of the conditions for activation. The technologies for Windows activation have not changed significantly in Windows 8.1 compared with Windows 8.
